

These two books would be launched by poet Sukumaran and by writer activist Sunny M Kapicadu.Īfter the books release function, there will be a concert by nagaswaram artistes Vyasarpadi G Kothandaraman, Mambalam S Sivakumar, thavil artiste Veliyambakkam V M Palanivel, mrudangam artistes Delhi Sriram, Praveen Sparsh and Sumesh Narayan. The translation of these two books has been done by writer and translator Aravindan. These two translations have been published by Kalachuvadu, a leading publisher.

These have been translated into Tamil under the titles Karnataka Isaiyin Kathai and Maraikkappatta Mrudanga Chirpigal: Sebastian Kudumba Kathai. The two books are – A Southern Music: The Karnatic Story and Sebastian & Sons: A brief history of mrdangam makers. On the surface, the book is an investigation into the lives and work of the makers of the mrdangam Karnatic music’s primary accompanying instrument (Krishna uses the phonetic spelling for mrdangam throughout).
